Google is killing Android Instant Apps, but you probably wont miss them
Google is discontinuing Android Instant Apps, a feature that allowed users to run parts of apps without installing them. This decision comes after years of limited adoption due to the requirement for developers to create slimmed-down app versions, capped at 15MB. Despite its innovative concept, Instant Apps struggled to gain traction, with only a few notable apps like Vimeo and Wish utilizing the feature. Google will remove support for Instant Apps by December 2025, shifting focus towards web-based discovery tools. This move aligns with Google's broader strategy to enhance the Play Store experience, emphasizing simplicity and user engagement. The demise of Instant Apps highlights Google's willingness to adapt and retire features that fail to meet user expectations.
