Reddit's AI-Powered Answers Feature Targets Search-Driven Users Over Community Scrollers
Reddit has launched its AI-powered Answers feature to directly serve users seeking solutions rather than community-driven interactions, distinguishing between Scrollers (engaged in discussions) and Seekers (searching for answers via external engines). The tool, currently in beta and accessible through a dedicated navigation tab, provides summarized responses and verbatim posts from Reddit communities, aiming to capture users who traditionally append Reddit to Google queries. Since its December 2024 beta launch, Answers has attracted 1 million weekly active users, prompting expansion into Australia, Canada, the UK, and India in April 2025. CEO Steve Huffman emphasized that Seekers represent an underserved demographic on the platform, requiring tailored tools like Answers to meet their immediate query needs. Future integration plans include embedding the feature into Reddits primary search box for full query support, enhancing usability for goal-oriented visitors. This initiative underscores Reddits strategic shift to leverage its vast community-generated content as competitive moats in the AI-driven search space, while maintaining parallel support for its core community-focused user base. The features rapid adoption highlights the growing demand for authentic, crowd-sourced insights in an era increasingly dominated by AI-generated responses.
